A BRIDGE MAY BE RECOMMENDED BY DR. LAVERY IF YOU ARE MISSING ONE OR MORE TEETH.
WHY DO I NEED A BRIDGE?
Gaps left by missing teeth eventually cause the remaining teeth to rotate or shift into the empty space, resulting in a bad bite. The imbalance caused by missing teeth can lead to gum disease and temporomandibular (TMJ) disorders.
WHAT IS A BRIDGE?
Bridges replace one or more missing teeth. They span the space where the teeth are missing. Bridges are permanently cemented to the adjacent teeth or implants. They are not removeable, they are fixed to the tooth and are therefore very comfortable and feel natural in your mouth.
Like crowns, you have a choice of materials. Dr. Lavery will help you to decide which to choose, based on the location of the missing tooth/teeth, its function and aesthetic considerations.
WHAT’S INVOLVED IN GETTING A BRIDGE?
The teeth adjacent to the missing tooth is filed down so that the bridge will fit over it accurately. An impression is taken of the filed tooth/teeth and the skilled tea, of technicians whom Dr. Lavery works closely with fabricated the bridge.
A temporary crown or bridge is made for the tooth while the permanent bridge is being fabricated. The bridge is the cemented permanently on top of the teeth.
